While many of you made New Years Resolutions to do things like eat better and exercise more, I made one to conquer a book that had been gathering too much dust on my personal to do list. And while I could easily read Herman Melville’s Moby Dick the old fashion way, with a real book, I thought I share with you some of the other was reading and writing are alive on the internet. You can read and download thousands of books at Project Gutenberg, you can add them to your Blackberry and I-Phone or I-Pod Touch. I love being able to whip out my I-pod while I’m waiting in line. I even read a chapter while watching my kids sledding last week. Maybe you’ve found that you can exercise or you can read, but you can’t do both? Think again, thanks to the wonderful community at Librivox. Libravox keeps a repository of volunteer-recorded audiobooks that are in the public domain. You can listen directly from the site or you can subscribe in I-Tunes as you would a podcast. Know of another great (free!) literary resource on the web, be sure to stop by our Facebook page and leave a post on our wall. Don’ forget to become a fan and receive invitations to our events. |
